To the victims of the natural calamities which hit the Philippines and other parts of the world, I offer my haiga above as I join the world in prayer and hope for a better tomorrow and return to normalcy. The artwork was done by Ashe Wood of England, my haiga collaborator and taken from my book, RUSTLE OF BAMBOO LEAVES. The one in the book, however, is in black and white which did not do enough justice to the intent and spirit of the poem and the art work.

I was also deeply affected by these events. In response I have dedicated a poem 'Horizons,,,'to the spirit of the writer R L Stevenson who is buried on top of a mountain in Western Samoa.

As you know, the original haiga in my book was dedicated to the victims of the tsunami then that devastated part of Asia. But these recent natural phenomena likewise affected thousands of lives and their properties, hence I dug this one and posted it.

Hello Vic,
The poem is about the 3rd or 4th entry down from today's on my blog. It's about Robert Louis Stevenson the author of Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde etc. who spent the last 5 years on Western Samoa where they had one of the recent earthquakes and a tsunami. I chose him to focus on because when he died of a brain haemorrage he was carried up to the top of the mountain by 60 native Samoans and laid to rest. He died at quite a young age - about 45 or so I think having had poor health all his life. It's really a poem about how our horizons expand and contract due to our life experiences.
